About the webinar
Effective teaching with technology requires more than simply introducing digital tools; it demands a thoughtful understanding of context and the realities teachers and learners face. This webinar explores how flipped and blended learning approaches can be adapted to diverse teaching contexts, particularly where access to resources, connectivity, and digital tools varies widely.
Focusing on the theme ‘Flipped and blended learning with online tools’, the session will draw on three case studies from the British Council publication Teaching and learning with technology in Sub-Saharan Africa. These include practical examples from different contexts, highlighting how educators have successfully integrated online tools to support learning both inside and outside the classroom.
The webinar will address key challenges such as limited internet access, varying levels of digital literacy, and contextual constraints that affect implementation. It will also demonstrate how teachers can creatively adapt flipped and blended learning strategies to suit their specific environments.
Participants will explore practical approaches to using accessible technologies, supporting learner autonomy, and creating flexible learning pathways. By the end of the session, participants will gain actionable insights into designing context-sensitive lessons that effectively combine face-to-face and online learning, making education more inclusive and resilient.
About the presenter
Dr Teshome Bekele Sime is an experienced educator, teacher trainer, and researcher at Hawassa College of Teacher Education in Ethiopia. He has extensive experience working in teacher education and professional development, supporting educators in integrating innovative teaching approaches into diverse classroom settings.
His work centers on promoting effective use of digital tools, blended learning strategies, and learner-centered methodologies, particularly in resource-constrained environments. Dr Teshome has contributed to educational initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching quality and improving learning outcomes across different levels of education.
He is particularly interested in how technology can be adapted to local contexts to create meaningful, accessible, and sustainable learning experiences.
