About the webinar

Explore strategies to achieve gender balance and empower girls in schools through English language activities. Josephine from CLASS in DRC and Mame Awa from ATES in Senegal will showcase their initiatives, including creating Communities of Practice (CoPs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) for female educators, mentoring and support programs, and developing systematic frameworks for gender equality in education. Discover how these efforts are enhancing English classes to foster respect and active participation among all learners. 

About the speakers

Josephine Katangila is a Congolese, currently teaching at 'Université Libre Protestante en Afrique, ULPA'. Trained by the British Council, a teacher educator and a trainer within her teacher association, representative of female teachers in that association and she has developed a system of CoPs. Josephine had spent more than 10 years at secondary school as a teacher of English, 3 years as headmistress and 1 year as coordinator of 24e CLMK schools. Also used to work for tourism and foreign trade. Being skillful in entrepreneurship, Josephine has been running her small business making handbags, slippers, flower buds, pots and trivets.

Mame Awa Mbow is a teacher of English in Kaffrine, Senegal. She has been teaching for 14 years and is a devoted member of her TA, ATES. She is the current Vice President of the association and one of the coordinators of its Female Teachers Special Interest Group.
