About the webinar

Effective teaching goes beyond the classroom walls and is deeply shaped by the context in which learning takes place. This webinar explores how educators can better understand their teaching environments—students’ backgrounds, community realities, available resources, and local challenges—to create more meaningful and relevant learning experiences.

The session will address key issues such as limited learning opportunities within and outside school, and the challenges teachers face in adapting teaching to diverse environments. Participants will explore practical strategies for connecting classroom learning to everyday experiences and extending learning into homes and communities.

In this webinar, we will examine the first three case studies from the British Council publication Teaching and learning with technology in Sub-Saharan Africa under the sub-theme of ‘Extending learning beyond the classroom’, covering a virtual reading club for learners, teaching during shutdowns, and supporting learning when coursebooks are limited.

The webinar will also offer solutions by introducing context-responsive teaching approaches, simple strategies for engaging families and communities in learning, and practical ways teachers can use local resources and experiences to enrich classroom instruction. By the end of the session, participants will gain insights and actionable ideas to reimagine learning and create opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
