Question: Are stories only useful in language classes?

Answer: No. Stories can help learners develop skills in other subjects as well.

Using stories in other subjects helps learners use more language, understand more ideas and see the links across the curriculum

Stories which include content such as the following can be especially useful and interesting:

  • Maths: time, numbers, measuring
  • Science: animals, life cycles
  • Geography: using a map or atlas, conservation
  • History: prehistoric animals, understanding the passing of time
  • Art and Craft: drawing, making masks, hats, cards, puppets
  • Music and Drama: singing songs, role play, acting out stories, moving to music

What stories do you already use that could be adapted to teaching another subject?
