Question: Is your body language important in the classroom?

Answer: Yes. Using body language positively helps to create a safe classroom and can help with classroom management.

Ways in which your body language can affect the classroom environment include:

  • tone of voice (the way you say things)
  • eye contact
  • facial expressions (e.g. smiles, frowns)
  • posture (how you stand)
  • touch

Positive body language in a classroom can motivate, inspire and reassure. Practise positive body language to give you the confidence to teach and to help your learners to trust you.
