Question: Are learners motivated if they discuss their feelings?

Answer: Yes. They feel valued, which encourages them to work harder.

Teenagers, in particular, often find it difficult to describe their feelings. You can help them do this by using emojis in the classroom.

Draw a few emojis on the board or on a poster, and label each appropriately. For example:

Full of energy Tired Need some help Proud

Ask learners to choose the emoji(s) which describe how they are feeling. Encourage them to share this with a partner. You can do this at the start or end of the day, or during or after an activity.

You can keep adding to the emojis with new ones, or encourage your learners to draw their own.

How could you use emojis in your classroom?
