Question: Can you use materials designed for young learners with teens and other older learners?

Answer: Yes – but be careful because teens might find it insulting to be given ‘childish’ materials

In low-resource classes where there are few materials available, games like I Spy and Back to the Board can be used, even with teenagers. Such learners will often respond positively if you explain the reason for the activity and what is being practised.

Questions to consider when preparing:

  • How will I adapt the activity to teenagers and other older learners?
  • What’s the point of the activity?
  • What will learners be learning?
  • Should I explain why we’re doing the activity?

What games could you use effectively with teenagers?
