What is the Female Voices Program?

The Female Voices program is a dynamic mentoring initiative aimed at empowering female teachers to deliver webinars and share teaching materials on topics of their choice through the TeachingEnglish Africa website. It offers a comprehensive learning experience, including:

  • Online training sessions led by expert trainers from the British Council
  • Personalised one-to-one mentoring to guide participants in creating their own webinars or teaching resources
  • Opportunities to deliver webinars or share materials on TeachingEnglish Africa

The Journey So Far

The response to the programme has been overwhelmingly positive. Throughout the course, participants engaged in weekly live sessions, delving into topics ranging from presentation skills to material writing. Despite the challenges posed by distance and time, the dedication of the participants shone through as they navigated the virtual learning environment with enthusiasm and passion.

As the first cohort course reached its conclusion, participants proudly finalised their teaching materials, including lesson plans, teaching tips, and instructional videos. These valuable resources are set to be shared with teachers worldwide through the TeachingEnglish Africa website, marking a significant milestone in the project's journey.

'Before the training I used to stick with gapped lecturing method. But now I've become more flexible in employing materials such as texts ( dialogues, passages), students presentations and group discussions to teach English. It also help me to get students actively engaged in the teaching learning process.' - testimonial from a participant from the 2023 project
